Retailers have come forth to say that shows like Sex in the City and Cougar Town are creating a demand for sexy lingerie for 40+ women, who, by the way, have more money to spend than their 20-year younger counterparts.
A major retail chain in the UK analysed its retail sales from October 2009 through April 2010 and found that women over 40 are the ones buying the lingerie these days.

She said: 'It seemed to me women in their forties weren't meant to be sexual - but Sex and the City changed all that.

Many of the luxury lingerie brands favoured by older customers are themselves the products of female 'cougars' in their forties.
Model Elle Macpherson, who is 47 and a mother-of-two, launched her own hugely successful underwear range in 1990.
And Liz Hurley, aged 44, has also marketed an underwear range at a more mature market.
Age doesn't stop sex, I know of some women in their 60s and 70s who still get it on quite readily. Likewise, a cougar might go after younger men and a cougar in thongs has a far better chance of catching her prey.
Cougars are just like younger women, besides the fact that they have much more experience and know what they want out of life and are not afraid to go for it.
